Passive Income Visa Checklist
VFS Global for Portugal - New York City
Personal Documentation
- Portuguese Visa Application - completed and signed by the applicant
- Schengen-sized pasaport photographs (qty 2)
- Valid U.S. Passport
- A certified copy of the above passport - all pages
- FBI criminal background check - must be apostilled or notarized
- For above background check, must be translated into Portuguese
- Translated copy must also be apostilled or notarized
- may not be be more than 90 days since issued
- Portuguese NIF
- Authorization for AIMA to consult Portuguese criminal record
- Proof of accommodation in Portugal
- Rental agreement or property deed
- Registration of the lease agreement with the AT (not required but good to have)
- Proof of income (e.g., pension statement, rental income, dividend statement)
- Bank statement showing at least the last 3 months of income or investment deposits
- Last IRS declaration (your last and latest Federal Income Tax (e.g. form 1040)
- A Portuguese bank account
- Latest updated bank statement for your Portuguese account:
- For the Main applicant: € 10.500,00
- Internacional travel medical insurance
- travel medical insurance covering the entire period of intended stay
- valid for all Schengen States
- covering any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons
- urgent medical attention
- emergency hospital treatment
- The minimum coverage must be of € 30.000
- Note: at least 6 months (you can get private health insurance in Portugal once you have your visa
- Note: No deductible
- Round trip (better yet, two one-way airline tickets)
- showing future flight into Portugal (it could take up to 3 months to get your visa)
- showing return trip departing Porugal (3 to 4 months after arriving flight above)
- need to show that you will be entering Portugal on your visa once you receive it
- also need to show that you have a way to leave if AIMA denies your visa
- Suggestion: purchase fully refundable tickets - you can change or cancel after your VFS visit
